Here’s what I’ve been reading, watching, eating, etc.—basically, all the “ing” words— these days.
Reading:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I’ve had a copy in my possession for more than two years but haven’t allowed myself to crack it because of all the warnings I’ve received—that I’ll be depressed for weeks, cry my eyes out, have my life ruined, etc. I’m just over halfway through and while I haven’t shed tears yet, I did just reach a point where I found myself covering my mouth in horror and sadness for twenty minutes straight. It’s so beautifully written, but I’m admittedly scared for the second half…and my emotional wellbeing.
Watching:
Severance, just like everyone else. I binged Season 1 over the holidays so I’d be able to watch the new season in real time. It’s unlike any show I’ve seen before. It’s honestly a bit trippy, and I love the way it makes me think.
Listening:
The Well with Arielle Lorre podcast. She chats with experts that dive deep into wellness trends and debunk myths in the industry. If you’re into nutrition, fitness, or skincare, you’ll definitely find plenty of episodes that answer your burning questions.
Eating:
In November, I joined the Form fitness app. My body was craving more strength-based workouts, and I’m loving the platform so far. They released two weeks of meal plans for January, so I’ve been following those on repeat. The recipes are simple, healthy, and filling. You can check my “Home Eats” highlight on Instagram to see photos of what I’ve made. Unfortunately the recipes are only accessible to members, but one of my favorites was Turkish Eggs, and I found a similar (free!) recipe for you.
Drinking:
Water! No, I’m not doing dry January, but I continue to struggle with my water intake. After I had a facial and the esthetician said she could see how dehydrated I am, I switched to a marked water bottle and started using the Water Reminder app to track my progress throughout the day. Plus, I use 1-2 of these Drip Drops per day, which add both electrolytes and flavor without sugar.
Wearing:
These JBD Ripped Dad Jeans from Nuuly. I’m not sure where I thought I lived when I ordered this month’s rental outfits, but it turns out skirts, dresses, and short sleeves were not the move. These jeans, though? Great move. They fit perfectly, hit the right length for my 5’2” self when paired with boots, and feel super comfy.
Reminder: Use my Nuuly link (or code haley7652) for $30 off your first month!
Wanting:
All the cute workout sets. The new “Sweet Pink” collection from Alo Yoga is particularly calling my name.
Also, regular facials. I got one because I had a gift card, and now I’m wishing I had the budget to go monthly. Maybe one day!
Buying:
Mouth tape. Hear me out! When I first saw this wellness trend, I thought it was truly INSANE. But I’ve been really struggling with my sleep quality—my smart watch pretty much thinks I’m at war every night—so I became desperate. I’m only a few nights in, but I’m honestly loving it. I don’t wake up with chapped lips and a dry mouth, and I think I’ve even experienced less nightmares?! Stay tuned for a full report once I keep it up for a while.
Trying:
Meditation. When I mentioned nightmares above, I meant it—I have nightmares nearly every night. I’m hoping that meditating before bed will help clear my mind. I googled “free meditation apps” and liked the reviews of Insight Timer, so I’m 9 days in with that one. Wish me luck!
Thanks for catching up with me!
Colorfully yours,
Haley
