Fierce in Flannel

I’ve been a loyal Old Navy shopper since I was a little kid. My mom would take my brothers and I back-to-school shopping there every year, and I’d find everything a girl could need to romp around school in style. Just like every other American family, we’d get those annual Fourth of July tees there, too. Come middle school, Old Navy and I were both going through a huge graphic tee phase. While none of the other kids in my grade seemed to appreciate the sarcastic sayings plastered across my body, my teachers thought I was a riot. What can I say? I’ve always been an old (and cheeky) soul.

I’ve long since been paying for my own clothes, so I’ve come to appreciate the amazing deals the store has all year round. Last winter I got almost $400 worth of loot for under $200, and the pieces are still some of my most-worn. The week before Thanksgiving this year, Old Navy started their Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals a week in advance for cardholders. Everything was 50% off. So yes, I filled my online shopping cart to the brim.

I scored a comfy flannel, a turtleneck that’s perfect for layering, a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans, a new nightgown (you know my thing with pajamas) and a super cool jumpsuit that I just realized I have yet to debut. I wore the flannel and jeans with a faux fur vest and heeled suede booties for my Thanksgiving Eve night out… but my friends and I didn’t take any pictures. I swear it’s a conspiracy – the times I do happen to go out, there is absolutely no evidence of it. I couldn’t waste the outfit, so I turned it into a blog post. And here we are, my friends.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big makeup person. Some concealer and bronzer from CVS and I call it a day. I’ve been getting sort of into lipstick lately, though. I bought Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick and couldn’t wait to debut it. I almost didn’t wear it on Thanksgiving Eve because I didn’t know if it was too ‘bold’ for the old high school crowd. But then my friend reminded me that I am cool and bold and also who the f cares? So I wore it. My dad said I looked like I was en route to a Dracula convention, so I guess mission accomplished.
