‘Tis the season to be spooky. Well, it’s the tail end of Spooky Season. Unless you’re me…then it’s always that time. My latest favorites will give you alllll the dark feels. Dim the lights, burn a candle, and get ready for a séance Netflix binge.
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix
- I was a huge Sabrina the Teenage Witch fan as a kid. And, honestly, I’m still into it as an adult—thankfully, Hulu has the OG Sabrina, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t occasionally watch it. But this version is wildly different: it’s dark, it’s dramatic, and it stars Kiernan Shipka. In case you don’t know who that is, read this post I wrote a few years ago about how obsessed I am with her. She was perfect in Mad Men, and she’s perfect in CAOS. I’m totally going to be that person that says “I was a fangirl first!” when she blows up. Just like Shipka’s Sabrina, I was supposed to be born on Halloween—I was born ten days early, though, because I don’t think the universe could handle all that. I’ve always felt ~witchy vibes~ in my blood…
- You, Lifetime
- Never in a million years did I expect my brother, the TV Editor of Paste, to recommend a Lifetime show. But man, am I glad he did. He gave me the heads up by texting me something along the lines of “I’ve never seen a show that’s more you, Haley. It’s about a stalker.” So, that’s what my fam thinks of me, if you were wondering. Most importantly, You stars Penn Badgley, aka nerdy-hot Brooklynite Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl. And Shea Mitchell. And even John Stamos at one point! Since my brother’s rec, I’ve spread the word to, like, twelve different people. IT’S. SO. ADDICTIVE. And it totally freaks me out about my social media use…but not enough for me to stop using it, obviously. Don’t let the Lifetime thing throw you off, I promise!
- Elite, Netflix
- Ok, creepy might be a bit of a stretch with this one, but it is dark. When I was visiting my childhood friend in Paris, she told me everyone there was calling this “the European Gossip Girl.” That’s all I needed to hear. If only Penn were in this one, too! It’s about a few underprivileged kids that start attending a super overprivileged private school in Spain. The girls are bitches, the guys are douchebags, and there’s a murder. BOOM. The only downside is it’s dubbed over in English, so the actors’ voices don’t match their mouths. Tough for us OCD folk.
